Design Argument
This lesson is part of a key stage three scheme of work titled ‘can we prove God exists?’ The lesson provides an introduction to the design argument with some simple comprehension activities.
The Jewish Diaspora
This lesson explores what is meant by diaspora. I have always used this lesson with ethnically mixed classes which certainly helps with the starter activity. The lesson looks at the history of the Jewish Disapora and reflects on the unique nature of Judaism as both a religion and an ethnicity.
This lesson is suitable for mid-high ability students. It will need differentiation for weaker students.
10 obligatory acts
This lesson explores the 10 obligatory acts of Shi’a Islam. The lesson introduces students to the 10 obligations and uses the ‘link method’ to help students remember them and understand why they are important to followers. This lesson links to the New edexcel RE ‘Living a Muslim Life’ syllabus.
The local church
This lesson looks at the role of the local church in Christian communities. It contains a variety of activities including a drawing task, video clip, scenarios that students should reflect upon and an exam question.

This lesson explores the functions and services of the local church using a range of activities. An edexcel textbook is useful in supporting this lesson.

Easter - without lesson plan
In this lesson students consider the symbolism of Easter, why it is an important festival for Christians and asks students to compare the theological importance of Easter with that of Christmas.
Scarcity of Natural Resources
This is a simple lesson aimed at lower ability students. It begins with activity's to help establish which resources are/are not renewable before moving on to consider whether or not we should be concerned about our current dependence on non-renewable resources.

Easter
This bundle comprises of three lessons complete with lesson plans. The trio begins with a lesson on Lent which urges students to reflect on the practice of fasting and abstinence before moving onto a lesson on Holy Week. This lesson draws on the Biblical events of the last week of Jesus’ life. Finally the Easter lesson focus’ on the symbolism of Easter day and concludes with a comparative exam question which reflects on the Easter and Christmas festivals.

This bundle covers the key festivals of Christmas and Easter including advent, lent and holy week.
Within the lessons are a range of activities to help students understand and reflect on the historical and theological basis of these festivals. Activities include freeze frames, card sorts, venn diagrams, discussion tasks, etc

This lesson follows on from the Lent/Holy Week lesson (also available). It draws on a range of activities card sort/word association/video clip to help students consider the importance of Easter as a Christian festival, the symbolism involved and the intrinsic link to Spring.

This lesson explore the theological basis of lent and encourages students to reflect on why the practice of giving up things we love/enjoy can be beneficial for ourselves and wider society.
Pilgrimage to Lourdes - without lesson plan
This lesson looks at Lourdes as a site of pilgrimage for Christians. It considers events in the life of Bernadette Soubirous as well as urging students to consider the rituals and spiritual healing that some Christians experience as a consequence of making a pilgrimage to this site.

Intro to the sacraments - without lesson plan
This lesson serves as an introduction to the 7 sacraments of the Catholic church. It encourages students to reflect on the idea of ‘outward expressions of inward grace’ through a range of activities.
This lesson links to the new RS GCSE syllabus and includes some differentiated resources.
Introduction to Christian prayer - without lesson plan
This lesson provides an introduction to the nature and function of Christian prayer. It has four tasks including analysis of different types of prayer and an exam style question linked to the new GCSE syllabus.
A homework task related to adoration and thank giving is also included.
Objectives are differentiated and there is an extension task for more able students.
Intercessory prayer - without lesson plan
This lesson explores what intercessory prayer is and the potential problems with it.
It includes a worksheet with differing (fictional) examples of intercessory prayer and urges students to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each from a Christian perspective. It also draws on video sources to help students understand the nature of this form of prayer.

This lesson explores what liturgy is why it is an import part of worship for some Christians and how it differs from non-liturgical worship.

Worship - without lesson plan
This lesson is the first of two which look at Christian acts of worship. The lesson focus’ on getting students to think about acts of worship outside of church, specifically art and music. There is also an exercise on praise which aims to give students experiential knowledge on why this is important.

This lesson looks at the sacrament of ordination. Students learn about what is involved in the vocation of the priesthood and the process of becoming ordained.

This lesson provides an introduction to the idea of pilgrimage within the Christian tradition. It urges students to reflect on the meaning and purpose of spiritual journeys with the help of a video clip and a range of activities.

Pilgrimage to the Israel/Jerusalem (the Holy Land) without lesson plan
This lesson looks at the spiritual value of a pilgrimage made to Israel from a Christian perspective. Using a carousel activity students visit six different key locations in the Holy land and reflect on their biblical significance and how visiting such places may help a Christian feel closer to God.
